Ceibal Plan: equal opportunities to our children

Ceibal Plan is an initiative of the President of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, Tabaré Vázquez (taken from the OLPC project scientist Nicholas Negroponte), which is expected that every teacher and every pupil in public schools in our country have a laptop with internet connection.

The name “Ceibal” was chosen by the symbolic meaning it has for the Uruguayans the kapok tree, its flowers (National flower of Uruguay) and the set of the ceibal trees along  rivers of the country.

The principles of this plan are fairness, equal opportunities for all children and all young people,  the democratization of knowledge.  One laptop per child and a master computer for all public schools.

It has gained international fame since its inception, and Uruguay is the first country to complete a plan like this.

One of the best things of living here:

There’s not corruption here!!

Well, there is but it is just a little!!! :)

At the top of the world table of 180 countries Chile and Uruguay share the 25th position and may be considered somewhat like referring to the region.

The report was released by Tansparency International in Berlin. Our country and Chile are followed by Costa Rica and Cuba. This last is a surprise for me!!!

Unfortunately the results indicate that corruption is seriously extended…that is something new?? I’m joking…

On 180 countries, Venezuela is ranked in the 160 position.

And the world’s most transparente country is….NEW ZEALAND! Good for them!

Uruguay to the World Cup

Finally Uruguay tied with Costa Rica  1 to 1 and qualified for the 2010 World Cup. It was a difficult match and the uruguayans as always, had to suffer.

Something to remember is the interpretation of the National Anthem by “El Zurdo”…

Chivito thieves!!!

The Chivito is an uruguayan classic sandwich. It is not from Argentina and don’t have any relation with chivito festival in Mendoza. Why I am saying this…because I find an article in Wikipedia.

Great musicians of the world!! Eh? Where?

One of the drawbacks of living here in Uruguay, or at least as I see it, is that great musicians don’t come to visit us.
Sometimes one of them get lost and so for example I could enjoy Alanis Morissett and Deep Purple. There must have been others, but I love this both.

Congratulations to the amazing creators…all this with only 300 american dollars!

I want the Elections right now!

I am so tired to hear about politic things and hear stupid acussations of  both sides!.

Next November 29 we’re going to have a new president and as the experts say José Pepe Mujica will be the one. Yeap! A tupamaro. Cool (????)

I don’t have money…if I was an american worker I would but being a southamerican one, it absolutely means that a thief is not going to atack me. Well, he can, but he is going to earn a penny :)

I don’t know…let’s see what a surprise life have for me.
